Quartz Countertops
Quartz is a new type of stone that is artificially synthesized from more than 90% of quartz crystals, resin and other trace elements. Because of the various characteristics of quartz, it’s suitable for use in kitchen countertops.
The advantages of quartz countertops:
1. Not easy to scratch, High hardness
The process of quartz slab is compressed in a vacuum, the quartz has reached a hardness of 6 to 7.5 on the Mohs scale.
2. Heat-resistant
Because cooking in the kitchen requires fire, a high-temperature-resistant kitchen countertop is required, and the feature of quartz is heat-resistant.
3. Anti-pollution
After complex surface treatment methods, the surface structure is extremely tight, the quartz is fine and non-porous, the water absorption rate is almost zero. Therefore, it’s impossible to penetrate by the oil, soy sauce, tea, juice, coffee, wine and other liquid in the kitchen worktops.
4. No radiation
Quartz does not have radiation, it has not impact on human health.
5. Not easy to break
6. Easy and low-cost maintance
Quartz countertop has excellent physical and chemical properties, and can be cleaned with any detergent.
The weaknesses of quartz countertops:
1. Slight expensive
It’s not easy to process quartz countertops, there are many complex processes, absolutely the cost will be higher.
2. Simple pattern and man-made veins
Quartz’s hardness is too strong, not easy to process, the pattern is single. For beauty, some of the lines of quartz stone are imitating the texture of marble, and the artificial lines are too regular and unnatural.
Granite Countertops
Granite is a common natural rock, mainly composed of quartz, potash feldspar and plagioclase. It is a medium-grained, fine-grained, blocky, and porphyritic structure. Due to its high hardness, granite is widely used for exterior decoration of buildings such as the building’s external walls, Roman columns, floors, washbasins, countertops etc.
The advantages of granite countertops:
1. High density and high hardness
Granite has a Mohs hardness of 6 or more, and some can reach 7. It makes the granite countertops less prone to scratches. Granite is hard but not brittle.
2. Natural and beautiful texture
There are many natural appearances of granite. Main colors are black, white, blue, brown, metallic, precious and rare green, rose. Each color of granite also has a variety of patterns, bright and natural.
3. Low cost
The cost of granite countertop is affordable, and lower than quartz or marble countertop.
The weaknesses of granite countertops:
1. Seams easily hide dirt
The length of granite is usually not enough long, if you want to cutomize a long overall kitchen worktop, there will certainly has joints, these seams are easy to hide dirt. You need to pay attention to the level of seam.
2. Low Radiation
The radioactive elements in granite is actually very low. Only some special granites do have high levels of radioactivity and do harm to human body. The radioactivity of the general granite is also strictly controlled by the quality of the countertop. The radioactivity of the granite countertop is lower than the computer screen.
